She added: ‘Last year she asked us to call her Elliot and it stuck. She wanted something different that no one else had. (There are many Ava’s.)’

Rochelle noted that she sees ‘no harm in respecting her desire to be unique’.

‘Come to think of it, it’s a little weird that as parents we choose names for people we haven’t met yet and expect them to forever. [identify] As that person! Anyway… that made Ava Elliott,’ the mother-of-two revealed.

‘I knew people would have opinions once I put it out there, but be kind,’ concluded Rochelle. ‘She’s just a kid trying to make her way in this crazy world! I just want her to know that she can always be whatever she wants to be.’

Rochelle first revealed the name change when she posted a photo of her big one holding a big pink balloon, which read: ‘Elliott’s first day of 4th grade!’

For her big day, Elliott wore a graphic T-shirt, black and white flannel and a cheetah-print skirt over a pair of leggings.

‘After two and a half years of homeschooling, these two beauties are back at school! Lyric is starting Kindergarten and Elliott (Ava) is in 4th grade! I can’t believe it! I am so proud of these girls. As much as I miss them, I look forward to seeing them spread their wings and fly!’ Rochelle captioned the snap.
