Those who accuse Bill Maher of straying too far from his liberal roots will surely be pleased with Friday’s lineup. in real time on HBO. From film director and writer John Waters to Democratic Senator Amy Klobuchar to director/actor and ultra-liberal activist Rob Reiner, this was a clearly left-leaning group of the aisle.

Except Maher wasn’t afraid to go off script and call out one of his guests on a tough issue: Hunter Biden’s laptop and the apparent suppression of that story in the media..

Maher set the trap early, giving his panelists plenty of room to air their views on abortion, Joe Biden, Jan. 6 and recent spending bills.

Maher mocked Reiner and Klobuchar’s glee at former President Donald Trump’s Boxgate issues at one point when they grew up in “the walls are closing in” fashion.

“You know how many times I’ve heard this on MSNBC?” Maher spoke about Reiner’s claim that Trump would be convicted. “We’ve got him now!”

Moments later, Maher zoomed in for the kill when he brought up the story of Hunter Biden’s laptop and how evidence of his influence was effectively falsified.

Maher turned the conversation to a recent statement by podcaster Sam Harris, who said there was a conspiracy to silence that storyline before the 2020 election, because it gave Trump more leverage in defeating him.

Maher asks if the other side is so bad that it is worth engaging in such oppression if anything is justified.

Reiner seemed frustrated and tried to change the subject on January 6Th Uthav Maher was not letting him escape. “They buried the Hunter Biden story.”

Renner tried to recover by rejecting the precedent. “You know what they did? i don’t know”

“Because you only watch MSNBC,” Maher shot back.

Klobuchar tried to cover for Reiner by allowing, “I don’t know if they’ve said it all,” adding, “You’ve got to make sure you’re treating people right.” She added that she was sitting back and letting the Justice Department do its job, thereby avoiding the original question.

Before that John Waters came to launch his new book. Liarmouth: A Feel-Bad Romance. Conversations ranged from various preferences on the sidewalks along Santa Monica Boulevard to what would be included in the planned Waters exhibit at the Academy of Motion Pictures Museum.

A friend of his Hollywood Walk of Fame star “closer to the gutter than ever!” Noting that he was greeted with such a note, Waters was happy to indulge himself.

“I make fun of myself and the rules I live by,” Waters said of avoiding any cancellations during his controversial career. “I make fun of political correctness.”

Waters once worked with Johnny Depp, but refuses to discuss the matter for one point: “I wish they would get back together and drive everyone crazy.”

Maher’s New Rules editorial was based on straw man arguments, brought up as props by a real straw man. Maher praised Salman Rushdie’s knife mother Silvana Fardos and said that she is an example of courage that we should all strive to achieve.
