Richard Simmons has broken his 6-year silence, with his spokesperson telling The Post that the beloved fitness icon is “living the life he’s chosen.”
Simmons’ representative, Tom Este, spoke out Friday after a new documentary was released about the workout king’s sudden disappearance from the spotlight.
“Richard is eternally grateful for the constant outpouring of love and gratitude he has received from around the world,” Esty told the Post. “He is happy, healthy and living the life he chose to live.”
Este’s statement comes after Simmons, 74, posted a personal note on his Facebook account for the first time in six years on Wednesday night.
“Thank you for your kindness and love,” Simmons wrote before signing off: “Love, Richard.”
Este confirmed that the message was personally composed by Simmons.
Simmons was one of Hollywood’s biggest stars for more than three decades before suddenly disappearing from the public eye in 2014.
After the release of a new doc, “TMZ Investigations: What Really Happened to Richard Simmons,” interest in his sudden departure from the spotlight has rekindled this week.
The special, which will stream on Fox and Hulu, claims that the star’s problems with his knees have kept him away from the sudden spotlight.
Simmons has not been seen in public since 2014, but he called the Today show in 2016 to deny rumors that he was being held hostage by his housekeeper.
Meanwhile, fans were thrilled by Simone’s Facebook message, which has already garnered almost 5,000 comments.
“I knew it was you, Richard!” A fan chimed in. “You are so loved, please don’t doubt it. You have done so much good in the lives of so many people. Thank you for all you have done and continue to do. None of us will ever forget you!”
Another chimed in: “We miss you Richard but hope you are doing what is right for you. You have brought me so much joy over the years, now your time has come, you deserve peace and happiness. Thank you for saving my life again and again, I am forever grateful.”
