Archaeologists have unearthed the remains of a centuries-old shipwreck that inspired the film The Goonies.

In 1693, the Spanish galleon Santo Cristo de Burgos travelled from the Philippines across the Pacific Ocean to Mexico.

The narrative of the shipwreck has been repeated for generations, most recently as the inspiration for One-Eyed Willy's pirate ship in the 1980s.

The plot revolves around a group of adolescents who go out on an adventure to find a long-lost pirate's treasure.
