The Portland Timbers won the Cascadia Cup with a 2-1 victory over the Seattle Sounders on Friday night, thanks to a goal by Sebastian Blanco early in the second half.
The Cascadia Cup is a three-team competition between the Portland Timbers, Seattle Sounders, and Vancouver Whitecaps.
It was created by fans of all three clubs prior to their entry into the MLS. To win the title for the first time since 2017, the Timbers needed to win or draw.
For the Timbers, Dairon Asprilla converted a penalty kick to snap a two-game losing streak as they battle to make the playoffs.
Seattle, which is also fighting for a playoff spot with seven games remaining, got a goal from Yeimar Gomez. The Seattle Sounders have never missed the MLS playoffs.
With only six games remaining, the Timbers have risen above the playoff line to seventh place in the tight Western Conference standings. The Sounders dropped to tenth place.
The Sounders, who last Friday drew 3-3 with the LA Galaxy, were playing the second of three straight road games.
